Plain khichadi (Mugale)


Dal Khichadi

Dal khichadi is favorite dish among kids. It is nutritional, rich in protein and easy to cook.

RECIPE :

Ingredients :

Moong dal - 1/4 cup
Rice - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbl spoon
Hing - a pinch or two
Salt
Oil/ ghee - 1 tbl spoon
Water - 2 1/2cups

Method :

1. Wash Moong dal and rice together and drain all the water.
2. Heat the pressure cooker, add water and bring it to boil. 
3. Add turmeric powder, hing and mixture of dal rice. Add salt to taste.
4. Allow it to boil on medium flame until half water get socked. If you will not allow water to soak it might get overflowed through cooker whistle when you close the cooker lid.
5. Close the pressure cooker with lid and cook it on low flame for up to 3-5 minute.
6. Wait for 10-15 minutes until pressure gets released. Whisked the khichadi.
7. Serve it lukewarm.
8. This plain khichadi can be eaten as it is or with ghee-sugar, milk-sugar or metkut.

Rice kheer

Rice is suitable for baby as first food. It is  rich in dietary fibres and easy to digest.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Rice : 1/3 small bowl (Handful rice is sufficient)
Milk - 1 1/2 cup
Sugar - 2 tbl spoon
Almond - 2 nos
cardamom powder - a pinch
Freshly grated coconut - 1 tbl spoon (optional)
Water


Method :
1. Wash the rice and soak it in water for 2-3 hours. Soak almonds also.
2. Grind the rice, almonds and freshly grated coconut in grinder with little amount of water.
3. Take out the mixture in thick bottom pot / pan
4. Add milk to it and bring it to boil on low flame. Keep stirring till it becomes thick and rice get properly cooked.
5. Add sugar and cardamom powder. Boil for 1-2 minute
6. Rice kheer is ready to serve. Serve the kheer lukewarm as it cools down it becomes more thicker.


Tips :
1. Rice kheer can be made with cooked rice. Take one small bowl cooked rice and follow the recipe from step 2.
2. You can also add raisins in this recipe for elders.

Rice kanji (Bhatachi pej)

Rice kanji (Bhatachi pej) is considered as first food for baby. Rice kanji is considered as diarrhea food and can be prepared by using rice powder too. Please refere the link ' Rice kanji (Diarrhea food)' for the rice kanji recipe using rice powder.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Rice - 1/2 cup
Water - 4 cup
salt 


Method :


1. Wash rice 2-3 times and drain all the water.
2. Add water to pan and bring it to boil. 
3. Add rice and salt.
4. Boil rice on low flame till half water gets socked. (Tip 1)
5. Boil the rice on simmer for few minute until rice gets cooked properly. Turn off the gas.
6. Allow rice to settle down.

7. take out the liquid kanji in bowl and feed to baby lukewarm.
8. You can add pure ghee before serving.

Tip :
1. If you are preparing kanji for elder childrens or adults cook it in pressure cooker.

After step 4 put the lid on cooker and cook it on simmer for 1 whistle.

Soft rice (Gurgutya bhat)

For babies soft rice is more easy to swallow.


RECIPE :


Ingrdients :
Rice - 1/2 cup
Salt (Optional)
Water - 1 1/2 to 2 cups.


Method :
1. Wash rice 2-3 times and drain all the water.
2. Add water to cooker and bring it to boil. 
3. Add rice and salt.
4. Boil rice on medium flame till half water gets socked. (Tip 1)
5. Put the lid on cooker and cook the rice upto 1-2 whistle.


Allow cooker to release the pressure. Serve the rice lukewarm
Baby will love to eat this rice with milk, curd, ghee, soup etc..


Tip :
1. If you will not allow water to soak it might get overflowed through cooker whistle when you close the cooker lid.

Potato-green peas rice


Dal khichadi is favorite dish among kids. It is nutritional, rich in protein and easy to cook.

RECIPE :

Ingredients :

Rice - 1/2 cup
Green peas - 1/4 cup
Potato - 1 small (Peeled and diced)
Tomato - 1/2 tomato (peeled and diced)
Garlic - 2-3 Cloves (chopped finely)
Cumin seed -  1/2 tbl spoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbl spoon
Hing - a pinch or two
Salt
Oil/ ghee - 1 tbl spoon
Water - 2 cups

Method :

1. Wash Moong dal and rice together and drain all the water.
2. Heat the pressure cooker add oil/ Ghee. Temper the Cumin seed and Hing. Add garlic and turmeric powder.
3. Add tomato and saute till it becomes mushy. Add Potato, green peas, rice and saute for a minute.
4. Add water and salt. Allow it to boil until half water get socked. If you will not allow water to soak it might get overflowed through cooker whistle when you close the cooker lid.
5. Close the pressure cooker with lid and cook it on medium flame for up to 1-2 whistle.
6. Wait for 10-15 minutes until pressure gets released.
7. Serve it lukewarm. If you like add ghee while serving.

Note :
1. For baby/ Toddler convenience, I have taken more water so that it will become more smooth and mushy. If you don't want so much mushy reduce the amount of water.
2. You can add more vegetables like cauliflower, carrots to enrich the nutritional vaule.
3. You can add a piece of green chilli if your kid started to eat spices.

Garlic - 2-3 Cloves (chopped finely)
Cumin seed -  1/2 tbl spoon
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbl spoon
Hing - a pinch or two
Salt
Oil/ ghee - 1 tbl spoon
Water - 2 cups

Method :
