Sabudana Kheer

RECIPE :

Ingredients :
Socked Sabdana (Sago) - 1 cup
Milk - 2 1/2 cup
Sugar
Cardmom powder - 1/4 tsp

Method :

  1. Heat 1 1/2 cup milk in pan. Add socked sabudana.
  2. Let the milk boil and cook sabudana till it becomes soft ad translucent.
  3. Add sugar ad cardamom powder.
  4. Check the thickness of kheer ad add more milk if required.
  5. Serve the sabudana kheer lukewarm. Your toddler will definitely love it.
Note :
  1. You can add dry fruits as per your choice.

Wheat flour ukad (Pithachi ukad)

This is typical Maharashtrian recipe similar to upama in south India. Wheat flour ukad is made up of wheat flour hence good for baby.

RECIPE :

Ingredients :
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Onion - 1 small (chopped)
Garlic - 2-3 cloves chopped
Oil - 2 tbsp
Cumin seed - 1/4 tbsp
Asafoetida (Hing)- a pinch or two 
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt
Hot water - 3 cup

Method :
  1. Heat the 1/2 tbsp oil in pan and roast the wheat flour. Take out from pan (Tip 1)
  2. Heat remaining oil in pan, crackle the cumin seed.
  3. Add garlic, asafoetida (Hing) and turmeric powder.
  4. Add chopped onion and cook it becomes translucent and soft.
  5. Add 2 cup hot water and salt. Bring it to boil.
  6. Add roasted wheat flout slowly and stir continuously so that no lumps should be there.
  7. Cook the ukad properly and add more water as per your requirement.
  8. Cover the lid of pan for 1-2 minute.
Tips:
  1. Roast the wheat flour properly till you can smell the aroma of wheat flour.
  2. You can add green chilli for elder kids.
  3. Also one can add some vegetables to ukad to make it more nutritional

Mix veg khichadi

Mix veg khichadi is good food to cover more nutritional in one.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Rice - 2/3 cup
moong dal - 1/3 cup
Mix veg (copped cauliflower, carrot, green peas etc ) - 1/3 cup
Small onion - 1 (chopped)
Garlic - 2-3 cloves (chopped)
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbsp
Asafoetida - a pinch
Salt
Mirch powder - a pinch or two (Optional)


Method :
  1. Wash dal and rice together and drain all the water.
  2. Heat oil in pressure cooker and crackle the cumin seed.
  3. Add garlic and saute. Add asafoetida.
  4. Add onion,pinch of salt and cook till it becomes translucent. Add turmeric powder and chilli powder. (Dont add chilli powder for baby who do not started to eat spices)
  5. Add chpped vegetables and dal-rice. Saute for minute.
  6. Add 2 1/2 cup warm water and salt to taste.
  7. Allow khichadi to boil and close the pressure cooker lid.
  8. Cook khichadi for 2-3 whistle.
  9. Allow pressure to release and serve mild warm to the baby.
  10. One can add ghee or oil on khichadi before serving to the baby.

Baby massage

Baby massage is a good way to increase bonding between mother and child. Out of the five sense , skin touch is more sensitive and well developed in babies. Baby always feel secure and pleasant when she is been touched and cuddled. Baby massage is the ancient technique and helpful in baby's growth and development. Let us discuss benefits of massage first and then about method.
  • Benefits of massage :

  1. Massage helps to develop baby's first language , which is mainly touch.
  2. Daily massage help to strengthen the affection bond between baby and parents.
  3. As per research center result, massage helps in weight gain and neurological development in premature babies.
  4. Massage calms to colicky baby and improve functionality of gastrointestinal tract.
  5. Massage helps in respiration of cells and circulation of blood.
  6. Massage helps to calm nervous system which leads to restful and sound sleep
  7. It helps to normalize muscle tone.
  8. Massage helps baby to relieve the stress and improve the pain management.
  • Preparation before massage :
  1. Time for massage - There is no specific time for massage. Only precaution should be taken that baby must not be overfeed before massage and also should not be very tired and sleepy before massage. After few trial and error you could find out more suitable time for baby massage. Usually for infants massage has been done before bath. After massage baby is relaxed and stress less and can sleep more restful.
  2. Oil for massage - Organic oil is easy to absorb in skin and hence good for baby massage. Oil like almond oil, coconut oil, sesame oil, mustard oil are good for baby massage. Use warm oil to massage the baby.
  3. Position to Massage - As per Indian traditional way baby has been massaged on mother's/caretaker's stretched legs and that easy way to massage infants. However, one can massage baby by lay down on mattresses or bed. Put soft towel on lap or mattress before to take baby for massage.
  • Directions of massage :

  1. Feet and toes -  Expert suggest that start the massage with feet. Massage the baby feet with the help thumbs. Press the toes lightly and pull them gently.
  2. Legs - Start with ankle and stroke up towards knees and thighs. Keep gentle pressure along the direction.
  3. Chest and stomach - Massage the chest along the ribs direction, stroke from middle toward down side. Massage abdomen in circular direction staring from naval to outward direction.
  4. Arms and shoulders - Massage the shoulder and arm in one long stroke starting from neck to fingertips. Use gentle pressure as you go along. Massage the palm with thumbs and pull the fingers with little jerk.
  5. Face - Massage the forehead with the help of your both hands fingers along the eyebrows direction and ends near the ear. Massage the chick lightly in circular motion and nose along the length.Massage the chin along the lips direction. Massage ear lightly along the shape.
  6. Head - Head has fontanel in infants so be careful while massaging head. Pit oil on head and just move hands in circular motion with gentle pressure.
  7. Back - Massage the back in outward direction from centre to downside. Also give some long strokes from shoulder towards buttocks.

Danyachya kutache ladu (Peanut powder laddu)

Ingredient :
Roasted peanut powder - 1 bowl
Jaggery/ sugar


Method :

  1. Take peanut powder in bowl and add jaggery/sugar as per requirement.
  2. Blend this mixture in mixer.
  3. Take out from mixer pot and make small size ball (Laddu) of it.
  4. Give this to your toddler as a meantime food.

Potato smash

Potato is rich in carbohydrates and mostly loved by kids. Potato smash is easy to cook.


RECIPE :
Ingredients :
Potato - 2 small
Cumin seed - 1/4 tbsp
Oil - 1/2 tbsp
Salt


Method :

  1. Pressure cook the potato till becomes soft
  2. Remove the skin of potato and chopped it.
  3. Heat the oil in pan and crackle the cumin seed.
  4. Add potato and salt. Saute for minute.
  5. Smash the potato and saute for 2-3 minute.

Rice powder

Rice powder can be made at home for baby.


Method :

  1. Wash the rice 3 times and drain all the water.
  2. Keep rice in sieve to drain the more water.
  3. Spread the rice on clean cotton cloth and allow it to dry in shadow.
  4. Roast the dried rice on medium flame. Keep stirring.
  5. Allow rice to cool down.
  6. Powder the roasted rice in mixer.
  7. Sieved the rice powder by using thin cotton cloth
  8. Store rice powder in air tight container
Tips :
  1. You can use this rice powder to prepare rice kanji.
  2. You can make similar powder of moong dal and use it in preparing dal- rice kanji.

Sabudana kanji

Sabudana (Sago) kanji is easy to digest and considered as diarrhea food. This can also be given when baby is having normal health.


RECIPE :
Ingredient :
Soaked sabudana - 1/2 cup
Cumin seed / powder - 1/4 tbsp
Oil - 1/2 tbsp
Water - 1 1/2 cup
Salt


Method :

  1. Heat oil in pa and crackle the cumin seeds/ powder.
  2. Add water , sabudana and salt.
  3. Cook the sabudana till it becomes transparent. 
  4. Please add more water if required.
Tips :
  1. You can also cook the sabudana in pressure cooker.

Rice kanji (Diarrhea food)

Rice kanji is easy to digest and hence considered as diarrhea food.


Ingredient :
Rice powder - 2 tbsp
Water - 1 cup
Salt


Method :
  1. Heat water in pan and add rice flour in it. Keep stirring so lumps will be there.
  2. Add salt and boil the mixture till kanji gets good consistency.
  3. Serve lukewarm to the baby.
Tips :

  1. Rice kanji can be made by using rice too. Please refer the link 'rice kanji by using rice'.

Sambar

Now I started to add little bit spices in my daughters food.Sambhar is the one which she loves.

RECIPE :
Ingredients :
Moong dal - 1/2 cup
Toor dal - 1/4 cup
Bottle guard - 1 cup (chopped in cubes)
Tomato - 1 (chopped)
Onion - 1 chopped
Garlic - 3-4 cloves (chopped)
Sambar masala - 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbsp
Asafoetida (Hing)  - 1/4 tbsp
Cumin seed - 1/2 tbsp
Curry leaves - 6-7 nos
Oil - 2 tbsp
Salt

Method :

  1. Wash moong dal, toor dal and bottle guard cubes and pressure cook till toor dal gets mushy.
  2. Heat the oil in pan crackle Cumin seed and add garlic, asafoetida, curry leaves, turmeric powder.
  3. Add chopped onion and cook till gets translucent.
  4. Add chopped tomato and cook till it gets mushy
  5. Add sambar masala and saute for minute.
  6. Whisked the dal and add it to pan.
  7. Add sufficient water as per requirement and add salt.
  8. Boil the sambar for few minutes.
  9. Serve sambar with Idli or rice.
Tips :
  1. Yiu can use only toor or moong dal for this recipe.
  2. Can add more vegetables to this sambar.


Nachani (Ragi) dosa

Ingredients :
Ragi - 1 bowl
Rice flour - 5 tbsp
Curd - 5 tbsp
Ajowan - 1/4 tbsp
Sesame seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Salt
Oil


Method :

  1. Take ragi flour in bowl, add rice flour, curd and sufficient water to prepare batter for dosa. Batter should not be too thick or thin
  2. Add salt, ajowan and sesame seeds, mix well.
  3. Heat the girdle (Tawa) and drizzle oil on it.
  4. Spread the even layer of batter on girdle.
  5. Cook dosa from both side by drizzling oil on it.
  6. Serve this dosa with sause or chutney.
 Tips :
  1. You can use cumin seed powder instead of ajowan and sesame seeds.

Instant Rava Idli

Rava Idli is easy to made and healthy for toddler.


RECIPE:
Ingredients :
Rava (Semolina) - 3 small bowls
Curd - 1 small bowl
Lemon juice - 1 tbsp
Soda - 1/3 small spoon (5-6 pinches)
Salt
Oil for greasing


Method :

  1. Take semolina in bowl, add curd, lemon juice. Add water to prepare batter for idli.
  2. Add salt. Mix well so no lumps should be there.
  3. Grease the Idli mould. Put the water to boil in Idli cooker.
  4. Add Soda in Idli batter and mix well.
  5. Pour batter in greased Idli molds.
  6. Once water in Idli cooker starts to boil put Idli stand in it.
  7. Steam the Idli's for 10-15 minutes on high flame.
  8. Turn off the burner and wait for 5 minutes before opening cooker.
  9. Remove Idli with the help of spoon.
  10. Serve these Idli's with sambar or chutney.

Kadhi

Kadhi is made up of buttermilk and good to change the taste of baby.

RECIPE :
Ingredients :
Buttermilk - 2 cup
Cumin seed - 1/2 tsp
Mustard seed - 1/4 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Garlic - 3-4 cloves (Chopped)
Roasted peanut powder - 4 tbsp
Gram flour - 1/2 tbsp
Oil/ Ghee - 1tbsp
Jaggery - 1tbsp
Curry leaves - 8-10 nos
Asafoetida (Hing) - a pinch or two
Salt


Method :
  1. Mix peanut powder and gram flour in buttermilk.
  2. Heat oil in pan, temper mustard seed, cumin seed and add curry leaves, Garlic, hing and turmeric powder.
  3. Add buttermilk and salt. Boil the mixture on low flame for few minutes and stir continuously.
  4. Add jaggery and boil for minute.
  5. Serve Kadhi with soft rice, khichadi or chapati.
Tips :
1. You can add a piece of green chilli if your kid started to eat spices.

Rava (Semolina) dhokala

Semolina is made of wheat and easy to digest. Instead of making dhokala by using gram flour, semolina is good option.


RECIPE :
Ingredients :
Semolina (Rava) - 1small bowl
Curd - 1/2 small bowl
Water - 1 small bowl
Soda - 1/2 tsp or less
Lemon juice - 1 tsp
Salt


For Seasoning :
Oil - 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1 tbsp
Curry leaves - 7-8 leaves
Lemon juice- 1/2 tbsp
Sugar - 1/2 tbsp
water - 2-3 tbsp.


Method :
  1. Take curd in container, add 1 bowl water and whisked to make buttermilk.
  2. Add semolina and mix well so that no lumps there.
  3. Add salt and lemon juice. Keep this batter for half an hour.
  4. Meanwhile for steaming, take water in large vessel or pressure cooker and bring it to boil.
  5. Grease plate or pressure cooker inner pot (separator).
  6. Take the semolina batter, add soda and stir well to mix it. as soon as bubble start to come pour the batter in plate/ pot. (Tip 1)
  7. Put the pot in pressure cooker or vessel. Cover the lid. in case of pressure cooker remove the whistle before putting the lid.
  8. Steamed the dhokala for 15 minute on high flame. Turn off the burner and allow stem to settle for 5 minute.
  9. Take out the pot with dhokala. You can check if dhokla cooked properly or not by piercing knife in dhokala, if dhokala does not stick then it is cooked.
  10. Cut the dhokala in medium cubes.
  11. Now heat 2 tbsp oil in small pan, temper mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add water,sugar and turn off the burner once it boil.
  12. Add lemon juice and spread it on dhokala.

Tips :
1. Depend on the size of plate/cooker separator steam dhokla in one or two batch.
2. You can add a piece of green chilli at the time of seasoning if your kid started to eat spices.

Dal Palak

Spinach is rich in iron and vitamins and lentils are rich in proteins. Dal spinach is very nutritious dish for baby.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Moong dal/ toor dal - 1/2 cup
Spinach - 1 cup (Chopped in small pieces)
Tomato - 1 small (Peeled and chopped)
Garlic - 2-3 cloves (Chopped)
Cumin seed - 1/4 tbsp
Hing - a pinch
Turmeric powder - a pinch or two
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt
Jaggery - 1 tbsp (Optional)
Kokam / tamarind - 1 small piece (Optional)

Method :
1. Pressure cook dal and spinach.
2.  Heat oil in pan, crackle the cumin seed and add hing, turmeric powder and garlic..
4. Add tomato and cook until gets mushy.
5. Add whisked dal and spinach mixture. Add extra water as per your need. Add salt. Allow it to boil for few minutes.
6. Add tamarind/ kokam and Jaggery. Boil for minute.
7. Serve this dal palak with soft rice.

Tips :
1. For elder child, you can add peanuts in dal before pressure cooking the dal.

2. You can add a piece of green chilli if your kid started to eat spices.

Baby bath



To bath a baby is always felt as a challenging job to new mother. It is bit difficult to handle tiny baby with soapy and watery hands. But don’t worry; be confident while handling the baby. It true they are sensitive but not fragile as we thought.

Preparation for bath:
  1. Before taking baby to bath please do the preparation for bath in advance.
  2. Arrange the bath tub, liquid soap, shampoo, warm water bucket, mug, toys for fun, bath towel, cotton balls and small napkin in the bath room
  3. Water in the bucket should not be too hot or too cold. In case of requirement keep hot and cold water handy.
  4. After baby bath you required the cloths for baby, diaper, plastic sheet (quick dry), hooded towel to swaddle the baby. Take out these things and arrange properly.
  5. Temperature of the room and bathroom should not be cold. Preferably close the window or gallery doors to avoid the cool breeze.
  6. Switch off the electrical appliances (like water heater, dryer) in the bathroom.
How to bath:
  1. After all the preparation for bath undress the baby and take her bath.
  2.  In India, many families used to do baby bath by traditional method that is by bathing the baby on straitened legs of mother/grandma. That method is also good but needs some practice. If you are not expert in doing same please use the tub bath.
  3. Before taking baby to bath please put towel in tub bath and adds little warm water (1-2 inch) to tub bath.
  4. Take the baby in tub bath by supporting his head with your hand firmly.
  5. Now clean the baby’s eye with wet cotton balls. Use separate cotton ball for each eye. Clean baby face with little wet hands or cotton ball.
  6. Clean baby ear with wet cotton ball and head with wet cloth. If you are confident enough you can wash baby head with water. Only take precaution that water should not go in mouth and nose.
  7. Now clean the baby hands, tummy, chest and legs by using soap and water. Clean the genitals softly.
  8. Generally for baby less than two months try to avoid using water mug. Use hand to splash and put the water on baby’s body.
  9.  After cleaning the all part parts take out the baby and wrap with towel.
  10. Keep on plastic sheet or quick dry. Dry the baby’s body by using towel softly.
  11. Put the baby cloth, diaper and swaddle baby in hooded towel or baby swaddle. Usually baby prefer to sleep after bath.
 Tips for baby bath :
  1. Be calm and patient at the time of baby bath. Never be in hurry. Bath baby gently.
  2. Massage your baby before bath. Bath and massage is good exercise for baby.
  3. Keep warm your baby at the time of bathing and after bath too.
  4. Never left your child unattended at the time of bath. Nothing is important than your baby's life.
  5. Try to avoid usage of soap for cleaning baby's face for first two months.
  6. Never use adult's soap for baby.
  7. If you hired a maid for baby bath. Keep eye on her while she is bathing to your baby.
  8. Check temperature of water before using it for bath. Baby skin is more sensitive than adults. If you are not sure about temperature use thermometer. 
  9. If possible sing song while bath so that your baby will enjoy bathing.

Fried drumsticks

Drumsticks are rich in iron, calcium and vitamins and hence considered as good tonic for growing child.

RECIPE
Ingredients :
Drumstick - 15 pieces (Approx 3 inch)
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin seed - 1/2 tbsp
Salt

Method :
1. Boil the drumsticks in salty water till it becomes tender.
2. Drain the water.
3. Heat the oil in pan. Temper cumin seed.
4. Add drumsticks and saute far minute.
5. These fried drumsticks are good finger food children more than 2 years. For small toddler there might be chocking hazard of drumstick's fibrous residue. In this case feed the drumstick pulp to your toddler by your hand.

RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Moong dal/ toor dal - 1/2 cup
Drumsticks - 8-10 pieces (3 inch approx.)
Tomato - 1 small (Peeled and chopped)
Onion - 1 small (chopped )
Cumin seed - 1/4 tbsp
Hing - a pinch
Turmeric powder - a pinch or two
Oil - 1 tbsp
Salt
Jaggery - 1 tbsp
Kokam / tamarind - 1 small piece


Method :
1. Wash and pressure cook dal for 2-3 whistle.
2. Boil drumsticks in separate pan , covered with lid and cook till drumsticks become tender. (Tip 1)
3. Heat oil in pan, crackle the cumin seed and add hing, turmeric powder and onions. Saute till onion gets translucent.
4. Add tomato and cook until gets mushy.
5. Add whisked dal, boiled drumsticks with water. Add extra water as per your need. Add salt. Allow it to boil for few minutes.
6. Add tamarind/ kokam and Jaggery. Boil for minute.
7. Serve this drumstick dal with rice.


Tips :
1. Do not cook drumsticks with dal in pressure cooker. Drumstick get cooked early than dal.You can pressure cook the drumstick separately by your judgement.
2. You can add a piece of green chilli if your kid started to eat spices.

Preparation before baby’s arrival


Giving birth to baby is happiest moment in life. We always look forward to give best life to our baby and take positive steps toward that. Before baby’s arrival we should have to prepare our mind for parenthood and our home for welcoming tiny toes.
We have to prepare our home for baby’s safety and pleasant stay. Please find some points which needs to consider and taken care before baby’s arrival.

1. Your home should be clean, neat and free from insects. For insect free home you need to do herbal paste control before one month. Insects like ant may hurt your little one.
2. Please arrange the crib, mattresses before baby’s arrival at home. In India, most of the families prefer to sleep baby next to mother at night. In that case you should use separate baby bedding (thin mattresses) so that baby can sleep comfortably. Keep thin blanket ready.
3. If you are going to prefer rocker or hammock for baby, do arrange it before baby’s arrival.
4. The place where your baby is going to sleep or play should not be too much sunny, windy or noisy.
5. Your new born baby needs a pair of clothes, socks, hand gloves, cap, sweater, baby towel, Cotton cloth to swaddle. Make sure that these things should be available at the earliest after baby’s birth. Many families are reluctant to buy new clothes before baby’s arrival; in that case they can carry cleanly washed cotton cloth to swaddle baby.

Palak paratha

Spinach is good source of iron, calcium, vitamin and dietary fibres.

RECIPE :

Ingredients :
Spinach - 1 cup (Finely chopped)
Wheat flour - 1 cup
Corn flour - 2 tbsp
Gram flour - 2 tbsp
Cumin seed powder - 1/2 tbsp
Coriander powder - 1/2 tbsp
Sesame seeds - 1 tbsp
Ajowan seeds (Ova)- 1/2 tbsp
Termeric powder 
Salt
Oil

Method :
1. Take finely chopped spinach in bowl, add salt and mix n mash it properly. Keep for ten minutes. (Tip1)
2. Add wheat flour, corn flour , Gram flour,  Turmeric powder, cumin seed powder, coriander powder, sesame seeds, ajowan seeds to spinch and knead the soft dough by using small amount of water if needed.
3. Taste the dough and add little bit of salt if required.
4. Divide the dough in small balls and roll the paratha by using little bit of wheat flour.
5. Heat the girdle and roast the  paratha from both sides.
6. While roasting you can apply little bit of oil on paratha.
6. Serve this paratha with curd , raita or sauce.

Tips :
1. You can puree the spinach leaves in blender and use that puree to knead the dough.
2. You can add little bit chilli powder to these parathas.

Salty Shankarpale

Salty shankarpale is favorite recipe of kids and adults. For your toddler it would be good finger food.

RECIPE :


Ingredients :
All purpose flour - 2 bowls
Ghee - 1/2 bowl
Cumin seed - 1 tbsp
Oil - to fry
Salt
Water

Method :
1. Take a flour in large bowl. Heat the ghee till it melts and become lukewarm.
2. Add ghee in flour and mix it properly. knead flour by sing water to make soft dough.
3. Cover dough with wet cloth and keep for 15 minutes,
4. Roll dough in rectangular shape.
5. Roll this rectangular shape in small folds to make tight roll.
6. Keep this roll in refrigerators chiller section for 10-15 minutes.
7. Take out the roll and cut into small pieces.
8. Roll this pieces thinly and cut into desired shapes.
9. Fry these pieces into oil and keep on paper towel.

Tips :
1. If you have oven instead of frying you can bake it. and also can prepared khari by same way.


Chicken nuggets

Chicken is good source of proteins. Your toddler will love this chicken nuggets as finger food.

RECIPE :


Ingredients :
 Chicken - 400 gm (boneless)
Garlic paste - 2 tbsp
Ginger paste - 1tbsp
Pepper powder - 1/2 tbsp
Rice flour - 3 tbsp
Corn flour - 3 tbsp
All purpose flour - 2 tbsp
Oil
Salt
Water

Method :
1. Wash chicken and cut into 1-2 inch pieces.
2. Take chicken pieces in bowl and marinate with Ginger-Garlic paste, pepper powder and salt.
Keep it for half an hour.
3. Meanwhile take all floors in another bowl, add salt and add water to prepare batter. This batter should not be too thick or thin.
4. Now heat oil in pan. Take a marinated chicken piece, deep in a prepared batter and put in frying pan.
5. You can fry 4-5 pieces at a time. Fry the pieces on medium flame and turn upside down ,once one side gets cooked.
6. Fry chicken nuggets on medium flame still it becomes golden. Take out the nuggets from frying pan and keep  on paper towel.
7. Chicken nuggets are ready to serve. You can serve it with sauce.

Carrot kheer

Carrots are very nutritious. They are rich in vitamin like A and C and also having plentiful minerals like magnesium calcium.

RECIPE :


Ingredients :
finely grated carrot - 3/4 cup
Ghee - 1 tbsp
Milk - 1 cup
Sugar - 1 tbsp
Cardamom powder - 1/4 tsp
Almond - 2-3 nos (Paste or sliced thinly)

Method :
1. Heat the ghee in pan and add grated carrot. Saute continuously still it gets cooked properly. (Tip 1)
2. Add milk and bring it to boil for 2-3 minutes. Add sugar cardamom powder, almond n boil for while
3. Carrot kheer is ready to serve.

Tips :
1. If carrots are not finely grated you can blend them in blender after step 1 and continue with step 2.

Beet root paratha

Beetroot contains lot of vitamin C, potassium, magnesium and folate. Beetroot is helpful to improve the immune system.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Beetroots - 2 nos
Oil - 1 tbsp
Cumin seed - 1/2 tbsp
Jaggery - 3 tbsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp (optional)
Wheat flour
Salt


Method :
1. Peel and grate the beetroots.
2. Heat oil in pan. Temper cumin seed and add grated beet root.
3. Add salt and saute for 2-3 minute and cover the pan with lid until beetroot get cooked.
4. Add jaggery and saute for 2-3 minutes.
5. Take out the beetroot from pan and allow it to cool down.
6. Add wheat flour to the cooked beat root and knead well to make dough. Do not add water.
7. make equal small size of balls.
8. Heat the girdle/Tawa. Roll the dough balls into thin round like Chapati.
9. Cook it from both side and apply oil / ghee  and roast from both side.
10. Serve the paratha with curd. Your toddler will love this red paratha


Note :
1. Cook the paratha properly. Due to the red color there might be confusion while roasting it.
2. You can add little chilli powder if your kid started to eat spices.



Plain khichadi (Mugale)


Dal Khichadi

Dal khichadi is favorite dish among kids. It is nutritional, rich in protein and easy to cook.

RECIPE :

Ingredients :

Moong dal - 1/4 cup
Rice - 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tbl spoon
Hing - a pinch or two
Salt
Oil/ ghee - 1 tbl spoon
Water - 2 1/2cups

Method :

1. Wash Moong dal and rice together and drain all the water.
2. Heat the pressure cooker, add water and bring it to boil. 
3. Add turmeric powder, hing and mixture of dal rice. Add salt to taste.
4. Allow it to boil on medium flame until half water get socked. If you will not allow water to soak it might get overflowed through cooker whistle when you close the cooker lid.
5. Close the pressure cooker with lid and cook it on low flame for up to 3-5 minute.
6. Wait for 10-15 minutes until pressure gets released. Whisked the khichadi.
7. Serve it lukewarm.
8. This plain khichadi can be eaten as it is or with ghee-sugar, milk-sugar or metkut.

Vermicelli (Shevai) upama for kid


As vermicelli is made of wheat it is rich in dietary fibres and carbohydrates.


RECIPE :


Ingredients :
Shevai (Vermicelli) - 1 cup
Tomato - 1 (copped)
Carrot - 1/4 cup (small cube)
Green peas - 1/4 cup
onion - 1 small (chopped)
Cumin seed - 1/2 tbl spoon
mustard seed - 1/4 tbl spoon
Curry leaves - 8-10 nos
green chili - 1 no (chopped)
Hot water - 1 1/2 cup
Oil - 1 + 1/2 tbl spoon
Salt
Coriander for garnishing


Method :
1. Heat 1/2 tbl spoon oil in pan and add shevai(Vermicelli).
2. Roast the shevai (Vermicelli) till light brown in color.
3. Take out the vermicelli from the pan. Add 1 tbsp oil into the pan.
4. Temper the cumin seed, mustard seed. Add curry leaves, green chili.
5. Add onion and saute still it becomes translucent.
6. Add tomato and cook till it becomes soft and mushy. 
7. Add carrot and green peas and pinch of salt. Cover the pan and cook them for few minute.
8. Add roasted shevai and saute for minute.
9. Add 3/4 cup water and salt to taste. bring it to boil and cook till shevai get properly cooked.
10. Add remaining water as per requirement.
11. garnish with coriander leaves before serving.


Tips :
1. Instead of oil you can use ghee too.
2. You can add a piece of green chilli if your kid started to eat spices.
